Mt Vernon Chapter, Quilters Unlimited of Northern Virginia, began in June1972 as a group of women  meeting at the Martha Washington Library. On December 14, 1972 we joined with other quilting groups in the area and on January 17, 1973, the name Quilters Unlimited was chosen. In March 1973 we became the Martha Washington Chapter. After sometimes being referred to as the “Alexandria Chapter” and the “Washington Day Group”, we changed the name to the Mt. Vernon Chapter and met at Sherwood Hall Library. In September 1991, we began meeting at our current location, the Hollin Hall Senior Center.

             Regular meetings are held at 12:30 pm on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month, September through May. Meetings generally last about 2 hours. The first meeting of the month is a business meeting with Show and Tell. The second meeting consists of a program. These meetings are held in room 218, the larger room on the second floor.

            Informal “bees” are held from 12:30 to 3 pm in room 216, 2nd floor, on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, and every Tuesday throughout June, July, and August. At these informal bees, each person brings her own project. However, sometimes everyone will help with a special project.  Everyone is welcome regardless of skill level. New members and visitors are cordially invited.

         At our regular meetings, members sign up to bring refreshments. The Center provides coffee/tea. Members set up the room for the meetings, moving chairs and tables as needed.

          Sometimes special workshops are sponsored. Our Mt. Vernon Chapter sometimes has field trips and workshops. Many area fabric stores provide a discount to QU members. Before making your purchase, present your membership card and verify a discount is available.
