In this lecture, via ZOOM, David will explore modern quilting, and how art and quilting are inextricably intertwined.  It will reveal how five key qualities combine in different ways to create spectacular results: scale, color, subject matter, technique and innovation. It will include examples of quilt masterpieces made between 1990 – 2015.  Experience the genius behind these exquisite quilts.  

About the Instructor
Known for his abstract and modern art, David Owen Hastings layers textures and machine stitches into his quilts and stitched paper artwork. Working within a limited color palette, he explores texture, pattern, and variations on a theme. With his hat hung up on his four-decade graphic design career, he’s free to teach his modern quilting techniques near and far from his home in Sequim, Washington. As a self-described personal cheerleader for quilters, he finds it exciting to teach and encourage others and to see what new art comes out of his workshops.
