MCLQU - Mtg. Program: Redwork: An American Tradition

  • February 25, 2025
  • 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • 4250 N Glebe Rd, Arlington, VA 22207

Redwork: An American Quilting Tradition.   Speakers: Sherry Cowley and Kay Thompson.

About the Speakers: Sherry Cowley is a former member of MCL QU. She grew up sewing, crocheting and doing cross stitch. In the early 90’s she started quilting.  After visiting a quilt shop in St. Charles, MO, she discovered Redwork, as they say, it was a game changer.  Since then, she began collecting and making her own Redwork pieces.

Kay Thompson is a current member of the MCL QU and its program committee. She is the Past President of the Old Dominion Hand Applique Society and its current program chair. Kay’s quilts reflect her own unique style and interests and have been featured in two shows at the McLean Textile Gallery.

Lecture: Redwork has been a popular, fun technique since the late 1800’s.  We’ll take a journey with Sherry and Kay back to explore the origin and tradition of Redwork and its many different patterns.  Best of all, we will have the opportunity to see first-hand examples of Redwork from Sherry’s outstanding collection.

We will also enjoy refreshments and Show & Tell.
