Create a “sketch” for each of the design guides using fused fabrics. Learn to edit, audition and improvise using a super helpful design checklist. Consider adding details with machine and hand stitching. Your completed set of fabric sketches can be used for reference and inspiration for future art quilts.

Skill Level: Appropriate for all levels.

Kit: Recommended (but you can use your own fabric if you want).

Kits must be ordered by 03/08/2025 (2 full weeks before the date of your workshop).  Kits can only be sent to US addresses.

    Lecture: The Dresden Reimagined

My journey with the Dresden block into the Modern quilt world, art quilts and publishing. How do you go from a quilt you made to a pattern to a book? I will also include a trunk show.

Bio: I have been fascinated with fabric, sewing, and quilting since the age of nine, when I took my first sewing class and won a prize for my corduroy jumper and print shirt with a necktie. When I saw an ancestor’s quilt in the Smithsonian at age thirteen, I was hooked. I taught myself to quilt from books and used cardboard templates and scissors to make my first quilt, a Log Cabin. It has been a love affair ever since.

I love using fabrics, themes, and colors from nature, although I lean more to bright fabrics with a lot of prints. Many of my works have a “tradition-with-a-twist” quality, and although I rely on inspirations from generations gone by, they also have a contemporary feel. I have dabbled in fiber art, challenges, traditional quilting, and modern quilting, and I love it all.

I have taught quilting for more than thirty years and love teaching and exploring with students as much as creating. I have been lucky to have quilts and fiber art pieces juried into shows with Missouri Fiber Artists, the American Quilter’s Society in Kentucky, the International Quilt Association in Houston, and the National Quilt Association in Ohio, as well as into many local and regional shows and displays.

I published my first pattern on the Dresden quilt (of course!) in 2015 and my second in 2018. My book Dresden Quilt Blocks Reimagined was published in 2019. I live with my husband, Tom, in both rural Missouri and urban St. Louis with our Golden rescue, Bella. I have two sons who as adults have followed in their father’s footsteps, and we could not be prouder. They are wonderful partners, and I hope I will get to pass on some of my love of quilting in their direction.

    Workshop: Dresden Springtime

These Dresden plates have always reminded me of flowers, or stars or fireworks but mostly flowers. In this class we will make just a few plates, learn some different edge and piecing techniques, explore colors and layout, learn to make bias stems and create our own “gardens”. Ideal for making just a few. Use your favorite “flower” fabrics whether in prints or solids.

Use a solid background or piece one.  Applique by hand or by machine.  Lots of choices but unique and fun.

Skill Level: Confident Beginner and Beyond
