Chapter Activities:

BEES: Our “Bees” meet on the Tuesdays when we have no meeting.  The 1st Tuesday of each month we have a bee at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Arlington.  All other Tuesday bees take place at members’ homes (depending on virus protocol).  Members will received reminder e-mails with the address and directions to the bee each Monday morning. Bees are open to all, and are a great way for new members to become familiar with our chapter. Sew, socialize, get help with quilting questions or problems, and learn from others about new techniques.

“Service Bees”: We gather at the church several times a year to complete quilts to donate to various community organizations.

: Each year, our chapter has an auction of quilt-related items donated by members.  For 2021, we are planning our auction for Tuesday, October 26, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Arlington.  The donations are pouring in and we will have a live auction, a silent auction and plenty of options for purchase.  Check or cash only, please.  Masks are required inside the church.

: Members may participate in each year’s chapter challenge. Past challenges have included a round robin, stash buster, and recipes as quilts.  One challenge was to take an architectural element, take a picture, and make a quilt top using that feature in the quilt.

2021-2022 Challenge:  A Day at the Beach:  This past year has certainly been no day at the beach and we deserve one so therefore our challenge for this coming year is, “A Day at the Beach.”  The meaning of a day at the beach is a non-stressful, relaxing day – an easy day. Therefore, let’s make this a challenge but one that is not stressful but reflects your interpretation of this phrase.

Our 2019-2020 Challenge was called Caution: Curves Ahead and the 2020-2021 Challenge was Pandemic Stash Quilt.

: Held occasionally. Usually a day-long get-together.  Work on your projects, see demonstrations of techniques, share meals, and have a blast!

: A pot-luck luncheon is held twice a year; at our December McLean chapter meeting, and at our May end-of year McLean chapter meeting.

: Occasionally, the chapter takes a bus trip to the Virginia Quilt Museum or other exhibits or fabric shops.

“Big QU” is Quilters Unlimited of Northern Virginia; McLean is one of its 11 chapters

: In early June, Quilters Unlimited (“Big QU”) holds a show at the Dulles Expo & Conference Center, in Chantilly. This is a non-juried, non-judged show. Entries are open to all QU members. There are also many vendors selling quilting-related items.

: A nationally known quilter gives a lecture and workshops. Open to all QU members.
