2018-2019 ARLINGTON QU PROGRAMS/WORKSHOPS

September 9 – table runners challenge show and tell.

October 14 – Phyllis Twigg Hatcher will give a presentation on Australian Aboriginal Graphic Symbols and Their Meanings.

October 22 (Tuesday) – workshop at Artistic Artifacts with Gudrun Erla from Minnesota from 10 am – 4 pm. Gudrun is the designer and owner of GE Designs. She was born and raised in Iceland and has written 21 books including Quilts of Iceland, Stripology and Strip your Stash. She has three Stripology rulers made by Creative Grids which are awesome. The workshop will use layer cakes (buy one or make one from your stash of fabric) with the Nova or Lexie patterns. Each pattern will be $10, and she will teach both but you only need to purchase one pattern. You can find more information about Gudrun and her techniques at https://gequiltdesigns.com/.

November 11 – Carly Mul from Web Fabrics. Carly will give us a presentation called “What’s New at Fall Market”. She will just have returned from Fall Market in Houston and will have all the latest information on what’s new from manufacturers and designers. I’ve seen her give this presentation and it’s always fun and very informative. She sometimes has giveaways too so don’t miss it!!

December 2 (Monday) – this will be our second workshop and will be on Sculpted Scarves with Teresa Fusco from New Jersey. This workshop will be from 10 am – 4 pm – location TBD. Here is a photo of the scarves which I think are very creative and elegant and can be done using all kinds of fun fabric. There will be a $5 pattern fee.

December 9 – Holiday Potluck. Surprises will be in store so don’t miss it!!

January 13 – our very own Lynda Prioleau will be giving us a presentation on her art quilts. This will be a fun and very artsy evening.

February 10 – Bonnie Rhoby from Michigan will give us a trunk show called “Who Are You Anyway?”. It’s a journey from her first quilt until now and what she learned along the way. Bonnie had a quilt exhibited at the recent Sacred Threads show.

March 8 (Sunday) – This will be our third workshop and will be with Lori Kennedy from Minnesota from 10 am – 4 pm – location TBD. It will be a free motion machine quilting workshop on motifs and techniques using your home machine. Lori has a wonderful website which shows many detailed tutorials on a wide variety of motifs. She also writes a monthly quilting column in American Quilter Magazine. You can find out more information about Lori at www.lorikennedyquilts.com. I’ve been following her for a few years and have used a number of her motifs in my quilts. She makes it very easy to learn new designs and feel more comfortable with free motion machine quilting. She’s also big on doodling designs to build muscle memory. No kit or pattern fee.

March 9 – Lori will be giving us a lecture called “Easy Machine Quilting”. Lori has written several books on free motion machine quilting and is very generous in sharing her designs on her website. She also has several video classes on Blueprint (formerly Craftsy). I’m sure you’re going to enjoy her presentation.
