SQU Business meeting (October 06, 2026)

Scrap Challenge quilts made over Summer 2026 and the UFO Swap challenge finishes are due for show and tell.

Springfield QU Business Meeting is usually the first Tuesday of the month. Weather permitting, we follow Fairfax County's school schedule. We review the upcoming programs, show and tell, healthy snacks and turn in our community sewing for others. At this time, unpaid members will be removed from SQU rosters and FB. Please go to the QU web site and pay your dues, or go to the Wild Apricot app. Please contact the membership volunteers with any questions. New Members are welcome!

BOM Apple blocks are due, one block = one chance to win.

President challenge: Scrap Challenges made over Summer 2026 is due for show and tell. Any size finished quilt!

UFO Swap challenge is due. A group of SQU quilters had a UFO Swap where they traded UFO's. The finisher gets to keep the quilt.

AnQU Fabric Sale (October 10, 2026)

AnQU is having a fabric sale on October 10 thanks to the generous donations of our members. Fabric will be sold at $7 per pound (approximately 3 yards). Boutique items will also be available for purchase created by our members.

SQU Fall Retreat (October 13, 2026)

SQU Fall Retreat at the Claggett Center in Adamstown MD. Cost includes room and meals, plus a well-lit sewing center. Spaces are sold out, but SQU members are welcome to sign up for the waitlist. There are times that quilter's schedules will change and spaces could be come available.

SQU Catherine Redford VIRTUAL: trunk show The Language of Flowers (October 20, 2026)

SQU is hosting Catherine Redford on October 20, 2026. From catherineredford.com: My lecture, The Language of Flowers,...includes a wide variety of quilts featuring flowers, many of which are beaded and em bellished. Learn the meanings our ancestors ascribed to different blooms and consider why the giving and receiving of quilts is so special to many of us. Quilting is a choice and as such I think that all quilters have the right to choose the elements of their craft that bring joy to them. There are always parts of our lives that we just “have to do” in pursuit of our long-term goals. It’s the same when we quilt. I al ways encouraged my children to try a new vegetable but could accept that there were some that they would never learn to love. I encourage my students to try all the processes involved in finishing a quilt but accept that there will be some people that find their joy in making tops by machine whilst others enjoy handwork and still others love to machine quilt. That’s OK! That’s where teamwork comes in and there’s a whole community of quilters out there willing to help.

Make a Quilted Clock on sit and sew day!

What: Quilted Clock

Cost: $10 cover partial supplies.

Date: October 27 2006

Time: 10am

Where: 7011 Backlick Road, Springfield VA 22150

Host: Pat Jesten and Bericka.

You will learn how to make a quilt block and turn it into a clock. So start thinking of your colors. The $10 fee will cover the cost of the kit. Please contact Pat or Bericka with any questions.

Reston QU Fabric Sale (October 31, 2026)

Reston QU is having a sale October 31 due to the generous donation of many members and local contributions. Fabric will be sold by the pound (approximately 3 yards). There will be sergers, machines, notions, kits and sundry items for sale.

SQU Dancing Dresdens virtual workshop with Candy Grisham (November 17, 2026)

Candy Grisham of iCandyquilts will be teaching a class on Dancing Dresdens. Create a small wall hanging or baby quilt learning to make one of the Dresden edge finishes. Special borders make it a simple but unique project. Requires template.
